Visa application form for U.S. citizens

GENERAL INFORMATION 

Every foreign citizen needs a Russian visa to enter and leave Russia. It's a special document attached to your passport, which grants you a permit to enter and to leave the Russian Federation within the trip dates.  There is nothing complicated with applying the Russian visa. Only thing you have to do, is to complete a visa application form, attach one picture to it, make a copy of your travel insurance policy (if you have one) and deliver all these documents to us.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

1. A passport, which is valid at least for 6 months after the planned trip.  
   Passport should have at least a double blank page free for the Russian visa and it should be in good condition - no picture or pages falling away, damage from washing machine etc.
2. One passport-sized picture.
   Picture can be black or white or colored but not a photocopy!
   
3. A completed and signed visa application form
4. A copy of a valid travel insurance policy If you don't have a travel insurance of your own, you can get the mandatory one through us at the cost of  1,5 €/day/person. Russian consulate does not process documents if the insurance copy is missing.
   
5. Non EU-citizens and citizens of UK and Ireland are required to have a certificate of student or working status in Finland.
   

PROCESSING TIME 

Issuing the Russian visa takes 10 working days in the Russian consulate. Your passport is kept in the Russian consulate the whole processing period!

There's a possiblity to speed up the visa process.  Instant processing takes 3-4 days and is subject to an urgency fee 60 €.

SPECIAL VISA CONDITIONS FOR CERTAIN NATIONALITIES

ATTENTION! Citizens of all African countries, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iraq, Iran, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Peoples republic of China, Syria, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Vietnam and people with alien passports from these countries have following extra requirements for getting the Russian visa:

1. A permanent residence permit in Finland or a student or work based residence permit which is valid at least 6 months after the trip
2. A certificate from place of study or work stating student/working status in Finland
3. Visa support documents in original – must be ordered at least one month before the departure from Russia
4. Visa should be applied at least 3 weeks before the trip in order to avoid cancellation fees, if the visa decision will be rejected by the Russian consulate.
5. All visas for these nationalities are subject to an extra service fee, which is at least 30 €/person inc. VAT 22%.
6. Visa fee is not refundable if the visa is denied.

Aikamatkat Oy is not liable for the visa decisions of the Russian consulate. In case of negative visa decisions, the visa fee is NOT refundable.   

DELIVERING THE DOCUMENTS FOR VISA PROCESSING

Required visa documents can be delivered in person to our office or by post, using registered mail. Please send us clear instructions about the desired validity date for your visa and delivery address.

TRAVEL MEETING AT YOUR SCHOOL
If you have enrolled for a student trip through your school, we will hold there a travel meeting about two weeks before the trip. Date and the place will be announced by e-mail. In the meeting we will give useful travel information and collect the required documents. Should the travel meeting date, time or place not suit you, you can deliver the documents straight to us or to our visa partners in Helsinki and Turku. Please mind the deadlines! Issuing the visa takes at least 10 working days!       

If you need the visa in advance, you can send the visa documents to us per post. Please send a message with your letter which trip you are participating and instructions where and when to send the passport after visa is issued.

ISSUING THE RUSSIAN VISA IN OTHER COUNTRIES
There’s possibility for you to visit the Russian consulate by yourself or obtain the visa through a local travel agency, but then you need to have a confirmation of the paid tourist trip and a hotel voucher. We can provide these documents on request. Russian consulates usually don’t accept applications by mail so you should visit them during working hours.
